Mangalitsa

Mangalitsa are a wooly, slow growing lard breed originating in the former Austro-Hungarian region. Mangalitsa are known for producing rich tender meat and delicious, high quality fat. While most convential pigs are bred to have very little body fat, Magalitsa were cultivated specifically for their luxurious fat. Mangalitsa fat is excellent for rendering lard, adding to wild game or other lean meat, or can be smoked, cured or whipped and enjoyed as a delicacy. It is even used for making soap and other body products.

Our Mangalitsa are fed Alaska grown grain and raised outdoors for a minimum of 14 months

At Tusk Farm we beleive that pigs should live outdoors in fresh air and enjoy natural behaviors such rooting in earth, browsing on vegetation and nesting with members of their herd. Access to plenty of space and ample exercise helps grow healthy muscular animals and produces a higher quality of meat.

Our pigs eat an entirely vegetarian diet comprised of Alaska Grown barley from Delta Junction, supplemented with plant proteins, vitamins and minerals to ensure complete nutrition. All of our feed is sourced within Alaska.

All of our Mangalitsa are descended from imported stock and are registered with Mangalitsa Breed Organization and Registry (MBOAR). The goal of MBOAR is to preserve the genetic health of mangalitsas in the US by tracing and testing genetic lineage to support better breeding practices. This helps to ensure healthier animals and preserve the unique characteristics of the breed.
